De-Worming and Outreach at the Clinic
This month, staff at the Duk Lost Boys Clinic began a de-worming initiative to treat helminthes (also known as hookworm or whipworm), which are parasites transmitted by walking barefoot on soil that bury themselves in the intestine and deprive the host of crucial nutrients. In recent weeks, our staff has successfully de-wormed 3,651 Sudanese, 953 of which are children, with a simple dose of medicine.
JDF has also begun a new initiative to spread into neighboring villages around the Duk Lost Boys Clinic. Staff recently traveled to Duk Padiet, a nearby area that currently has no medical facilities, to immunize 423 children and 40 pregnant women against basic diseases. Thanks to help from supporters like you, we plan on continuing this program on a larger scale in both Duk Padiet and other villages.
