Governor of Jonglei State Visits New York
The Governor of Jonglei State, his excellency Kuol Manyang Juuk, visited Central New York in late July to meet with the large population of Sudanese in the area and to network with local groups. Over 200 Sudanese from all over the northeast came to welcome this highly-respected Governor to Syracuse! Jonglei is the state in South Sudan where the John Dau Foundation's medical facility, the Duk Lost Boys Clinic, is located. While here, the Governor and several other government officials, led by John Dau, toured local farms, businesses and colleges. He met with businessmen, politicians, and academics to discuss the progress his state has made to help the strife in South Sudan caused by resettling thousands of returning refugees and rebuilding after the 20-year civil war. The Governor also met with JDF board members and founders to discuss plans for the future.
While discussing the Government of South Sudan's success and future goals, he included our Clinic, saying it is "ahead of" the government in its work towards providing basic services for Sudanese. During his keynote address at the welcoming event, the Governor awarded great praise to John, saying that John has done more for the people of South Sudan than he himself had.
We are very grateful for Governor Kuol's support and are confident that with it, the Clinic will continue to prosper and be welcomed in Jonglei State.
